Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.
The organization did not mention the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
