Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to replace the former manager as manager of Wolves.
The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the squad's 10-match without a victory beginning to the Premier League campaign.
And Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have historic associations to the club - are part of the names to be considered by the Wolves ownership.
The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
Nevertheless the ex- Luton head coach - who made over a century of appearances for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the position.
The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys support from the club directors as they start the search of hiring a fresh head coach.
Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a surprising choice considering he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.
The ex- West Ham United player is out of work meaning Wolves would not be required to pay any compensation.
