Spurs Manager Frank Calls Goalkeeper Booers 'Not Real Supporters'
The Cottagers Start Strong to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on the Manager
Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed later "they cannot be real Tottenham fans" by manager Frank.
Spurs let in two goals in the opening initial moments to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight at home defeat of 2025.
But the main topic of discussion was Fulham's second score when Vicario lost the ball far beyond his box.
He came out to handle a high pass and took the ball towards the touchline.
But, instead of booting it out of play, the Italian spun and attempted to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by Josh King.
The forward passed the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who curled a shot into the goal from the sideline measured at 36.6 metres.
Moments later when the ball came to Vicario once more, some Spurs fans jeered him.
The team were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at the final whistle.
A particular of those jeering episodes really irritated the manager.
"It came to my attention some of our fans reportedly jeered the incident and jeered after, which, in my view is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager stated regarding the fans' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"Those individuals can't be true Spurs fans that do that. Fair enough jeering following the match, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting each other, we are with each other going forward."
Kenny Tete had handed the visitors a fourth-minute advantage prior to Harry Wilson's goal – with Kudus scoring for Spurs in an improved second-half showing.
Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the next score was "completely avoidable".
"I do appreciate the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper added. "I know the part Vicario is playing. He's a excellent team player, he is a true leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily involved in what ended up to be the winning goal."
'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'
Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game
Italian national team the keeper is in his third campaign with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old stated after the match that he had to accept the criticism.
"The second score was a mistake of my own, I take accountability for that," he commented.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just hit the ball in a bad manner. It was an more difficult mountain to overcome."
He said being booed "is part of the game".
"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "We cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the right to do what they think.
"It's on the team to stay increasingly composed, to concentrate on our own performance. The team is lacking in calmness and calmness to reverse results. This match is a bad loss and it's tough to accept."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Goal Line'
Despite Vicario's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to convert.
Actually it was the second most distant Premier League score of the campaign – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly also came on the same day.
Wilson stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open goal to target.
10 seconds passed between the keeper coming out of his area and the midfielder shooting – which was 5 moments after the kick.
"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the box for a long time," Wilson remarked.
"It amazed me none of the defenders went back to the line. When none of them defended the net, my interest sparked a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped as well, which gave me a bit of additional time. Then it was all about attempting to achieve the right contact and get it towards goal. I had a positive sense, as soon as it left my foot, that it was heading in."
'When You're in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'
Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unjustifiable - the Manager
Although the keeper's mistake dominated headlines, this was an all-round bad day for Tottenham to continue their home ground woes.
The match was their tenth at home defeat of 2025 in the league, a shared club statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.
They still have home fixtures against Frank's old side Brentford and title holders the Reds to come before the close of the year.
Only one of those victories have occurred after Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou in the off-season.
"If you are behind 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to climb," stated Frank.
"When you're in a bad spell, everything seems to work against you as well – the first was a deflected attempt, the second is a error from Vic.
"The outcome puts us in a position where we have suffered an additional match. Each fixture has a single narrative, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.
"We just need to keep working. The second half was much better and hopefully something we can utilize to learn."
Spurs have lost four straight at home capital clashes for the first time in the Premier League.
And they are averaging nine point five attempts and three point two shots on target per game in the Premier League – their lowest rates on file in a one campaign (dating back to 2003-04).
Former Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.
"He's got accept the stick," the pundit remarked. "He's accepted a prestigious job at a huge team with enormous anticipation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that accompanies that.
"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
