The President Invites Families of Injured Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
President Trump stated on Sunday that he has extended an invitation the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Information on the Devastating Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president addressed reporters. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Reaction
Attendees came together over the past few days at a local school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s government program to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She behaved with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a positive energy that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the Associated Press. “She was kind, caring and always ready to help others.”
Service details for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Measures and Government Changes
Law enforcement have charged a 29-year-old suspect with one count of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the administration to halt asylum processing and temporarily stop granting visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she aimed to speak to the family.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, as stated by the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had courage,” Morrisey addressed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
